PROSPERITY
We are dedicated to restoring a quality of life that’s been lost.
The PNP maintains a strong record of job creation. In 2007, the rate of unemployment was at the lowest rate since the 19th Century. We have also facilitated economic development: in the past, we were able to pass 12 consecutive IMF tests, leading to an end to borrowing and a period of heightened prosperity. Right now, however, the rate of poverty in Jamaica is heartbreakingly high. Our country needs leadership committed not only to helping the wealthiest among us—but to helping us all.
Here’s our plan:
- To refocus economic attention and assistance on the masses, instead of the wealthiest among us
- To train our professionals to meet global needs and surpass global standards
- We have already funded a comprehensive jobs program that feeds every socioeconomic level—whatever your skill level or place of residence, this plan will be accessible to youTo create a powerful network of Small Business Owners that legitimizes and incubates small businesses through tax credits, funding and resources
- We will establish a CREATIVITY NATION—an economic plan focused on growth sectors that utilize our innate talent and develop additional technical skills—so we can compete globally
- To regain the trust of the IMF by applying our skill and experience to pass critical IMF tests, with the greater aim of ending the agreement and stimulating economic growth
- To regain the trust of the IMF by applying our skill and experience to pass critical IMF tests, with the greater aim of ending the agreement and stimulating economic growth
- Focus on the industries that extend and diversify our global reach: health, ICT, culture
- To strengthen and reorganize the agrarian economy that is essential to our nation’s wealth
OPENNESS
We are of the region—and most importantly—of the world.
The PNP has a strong record of positive engagement with the world and the region. We strengthened bilateral relations with Latin America and proudly deepened our relations with the CARICOM alliance. During the past 4 years, Jamaica has been noticeably absent from regional proceedings. The PNP, on the other hand, believes that we have greater influence when working in cooperation with our neighbors and our economic allies for profitable trade agreements and able energy resources.
Here’s our plan:
- To repair relations with CARICOM; an economy of scale will deliver better services and lower costs, because we are more influential when banded together as a region than a single country
- To deepen our cooperation with the much larger economies of Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela in the areas of sports and culture, agro-processing and energy and ICT
- We will restore diplomacy and our once favorable standing with the US, UK and Canada
- We will create an economy of scale that delivers better services and lowers costs
- To embrace technology as the great enabler—and develop global and cultural emissaries that push our culture across borders, bring down barriers and create change on a global stage
WISDOM
We are leadership with confidence, experience and powerful plans.
The PNP possesses the diplomatic that allows us to successfully negotiate and mediate with global financial leaders. Our longstanding experience put us in a position to participate in the Petrocaribe agreement and other critical matters of foreign policy—and we will continue to do so. Four years out of the spotlight has provided us fresh perspective; we are recharged and well-prepared to lead.
Here’s our plan:
- We will deeply respect the people and lead from a place of empathy and compassion; we will continue our history of listening, which lets us legislate in ways which benefit the populace of our nation
- To be smart global leaders and foster our reputation as the “thinking man’s party”
- Leverage our years of trust-building with the IMF and global leaders for economic gain
- To be proactive—not reactive—about foreign policy; the PNP has earned the respect of leaders around the globe—we communicate Jamaica’s interests responsibly and appropriately
EMPOWERMENT
We will develop talent through education and providing access to new opportunities.
The PNP has proudly fostered significant social, technological and resource developments. Through the promotion of home ownership, land rights and island wide education, we have worked to empower Jamaican citizens. We enabled and maintained a greater connection to the Diaspora and will continue to broaden opportunities and amenities for every Jamaican.
Here’s our plan:
- We will nurture and develop Jamaican youth through new community spaces in both physical and virtual environments
- A Youth Centre in every parish will ably inform everyone about jobs, health and education—and an integrated Ministry of Youth will effectively organize and centralize our efforts
- As part of the CREATIVITY ECONOMY, the PNP will provide formal training in lucrative areas of ICT, agriculture, culture, cuisine, entertainment and heritage crafts
- Recapitalize the Students’ Loan Bureau for better interest rates
- Provide tertiary-level students with more innovative options for financing their education
- Provide mentorship for small business owners, secondary school students and more
- We will inaugurate a SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE: that makes education available via technology to citizens island wide, democratizes learning and works towards an ideas-based economy
RESPONSIBILITY
We will foster a responsible society where people feel secure.
From establishing the National Poverty Eradication Programme to creating the National Environmental Protection Agency, the PNP led with a steadfast agenda of responsibility. Since 1938, we prioritized equal social and economic opportunity, gender equality and an effective system of law. Our strategy for the future furthers where we’ve been and brings new ideas forward.
Here’s our plan:
- Restore dignity to the police force through equipment provisions, building renovations, higher education opportunities and effective training—that guarantees a safer, more secure life for all
- Renew public spaces through community restoration and ending of zones of exclusion; we will beautify and refurbish neighborhoods and let good citizens feel safe on the streets
- To tackle trans-border crime through increased cooperation with South American, US and UK partners
- To better address white collar crime, cyber crime, identity theft and damaging scams
- To increased police presence by establishing more police stations
