The People's National Party has and will always be committed to the economic and social progress of all Jamaicans. That is why we are the People's Party. We are committed to placing the majority of the people at the centre of development at all times and protecting the most disadvantaged. We have always treated the people with respect and as equal partners in building Jamaica. 

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL PROGRESS FOR THE PEOPLE, BY ENSURING EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL, HAS BEEN THE CONVICTION OF THE PNP SINCE IT WAS FORMED IN 1938.

The PNP has put this mission into action every time we have been in Government (1955-1962, 1972-1980, 1989-2007). The PNP was created as a national movement of people from all walks of life committed to "Building the New Jamaica" that offers opportunities for all. That is why we are a National Party. 

The PNP has always been a Party with vision and our founders were visionaries. The history of the PNP has been one of a righteous struggle to positively change the Jamaican society. The birth of the Party was the result of a long process of struggle, which began with the struggle of slaves against slavery, and later, by workers against injustice at the workplace.

An important organisational foundation of the Party is the coming together of all social and economic classes to form a class alliance including small farmers; rural poor; urban poor; working class; professionals - teachers, lawyers, doctors; small business owners etc. 

Providing and encouraging jobs, business opportunity, improved standard of living, education, housing, healthcare, peace of mind, security, people participation and cultural expression have always been hallmarks of Governments led by the PNP.
